Getting Creative With Alcohol-Free Drinks
/Sober January—also known as Dryuary—is the perfect opportunity to detox, reset, and find balance after the holidays. Whether you overindulged or are just hoping to start the year off on the right foot, a great step to take could be committing to an alcohol-free month.
And whether you go sans booze just for January or stick with it longer, you may find that you not only feel better, but you also find some new favourite drinks you really enjoy and that actually have some health benefits.
There are so many new concoctions available (and we carry a lot of them at Pomme!) You can now find virgin variations of familiar cocktails, like Gin & Tonic or Moscow Mules, which are super delicious, but you can also get creative and make something from scratch.
Here’s a simple structure for how to put together your own mocktail:
Start by choosing a base.
Kombucha (for a gut-healthy dose of probiotics)
Juice (even a nutrition-packed green juice!)
Tea (Herbal or Black; Iced or Hot)
Flavoured or Unflavoured Sparkling Water or Seltzer.
2. Get creative and don’t be afraid to experiment! Toss in a handful of frozen berries or fresh fruit, add a sprig or two of some fresh herbs—mix and match to your heart’s content, and go a little wild with those garnishes!
3. As an optional add-in, you can even find non-alcoholic spirits infused with botanicals to mimic the taste of traditional spirits. We carry a variety of Botanical Spirits at Pomme.
4. Finally, finish with a few drops of bitters (Angostura Aromatic Bitters is one example), a pinch of sea salt, or a sweetener like maple syrup.
To get more inspiration for creating your own mocktails, Pinterest is always a good place to start and this collection of 29 non alcoholic drink recipes from Epicurious has some interesting ideas that will take you through the whole year.
Rather than thinking about giving up alcohol, frame it as treating yourself to some brand new drinks that are not only delicious (and often nutritious) but will also leave you feeling more energized the next day. Cheers to a healthy new year!
