Meet The Makers Mini Interview: Kindred Cultures
/This month for our Meet The Maker Mini Interview we’re talking to Lindsay Scott, founder of Kindred Cultures. One of the nicest things about talking to local creators is hearing about how the inspiration for their products comes from truly wanting to make their families, communities, and planet healthier. Kindred Cultures is no exception. Lindsay developed her amazing probiotic-packed, delicious, and wonderfully, naturally colourful water kefirs to help her young son’s skin successfully recover from eczema. We’re thrilled to have these delicious and beautiful beverages in our coolers at Pomme so you can benefit from their refreshing, health-boosting properties too, and we’re really happy to be able to give you a chance to learn a little more about Lindsay!

Share your story with us in a 150 words or less.
When my youngest son was only 18 months old, he was dealing with eczema symptoms and we were searching for some relief for him. On the recommendation of our naturopath, we tried Kefir and immediately saw results in his skin. When we improved his gut health, his symptoms subsided. I was elated and started sharing kefir with my neighbours and friends. Our business is built with love and dedication to good health through gut health. We’re so thrilled to have the opportunity to share our kefir.
Getting from an idea to a small business is a lot of work! When did it first sink in for you that ‘this is really happening’?
I distinctly remember filing the incorporation paperwork and knowing that I was really doing it. It was such a huge mix of excitement and worry!
Out of all your products, which is your personal favourite and why?
Spirulina is my personal favourite. It was a big accomplishment to figure out this recipe and I absolutely love the way it makes me feel. It’s the kefir I still drink every single day 2 years later!
What motivates you on a day-to-day basis?
My family. Without the struggles of my youngest son I may never have found this amazing product. I’m forever grateful for this opportunity and for my wonderful kids and husband for their unwavering support.
What’s your favourite thing about the town or city you live in?
We are so lucky to live in Steveston, which is an incredibly warm community of great people. My favourite thing about Steveston is the Brittania Shipyards historic site. It’s a favourite spot for my kids and I to walk and visit!
Describe your ideal Sunday, including your breakfast.
Oh my gosh, I love Sunday mornings when I get to be home. My ideal Sunday morning would be sleeping in to 8, having my favourite coffee on our sunny little balcony and reading a great book (I recently finished The Gastronomical Me by MFK Fisher)
What are your personal top three tips for feeling awesome?
- A little self care everyday
- Eat the rainbow
- Drink your kefir
