Save With Homemade Meals

At Pomme we always say that Good Food Changes Everything. We truly believe that natural, ethically produced food is a fundamental part of maintaining overall health—which applies to not only personal health but the health of our planet. Of course, food is not just functional, it’s social and cultural. Whether you’re sharing a laughter-filled meal with family and friends or taking time to consciously savour the wonderful flavours of a thoughtfully made meal for one, food can bring so much joy into our lives. And it’s wonderful that we can all also expand this joy, into the kitchen.Making meals at home has so many benefits. One of the upsides is that eating in is really economical compared to eating out but most importantly, you have knowledge and control over every ingredient you’re using! You also have the opportunity to cook in large quantities which makes the most of your time and the ingredients, and lets you enjoy leftovers the next day, freeze portions for pre-made future meals, or share with senior parents or neighbours who might not be cooking as much themselves these days.

Making the process of cooking part of an event is a really wonderful way to connect with the people in your life. You can invite a few friends over, make it part of date night, or get the kids involved and teach them some really valuable life skills in the process! You really just need to do a bit of advance planning so you have everything you need on hand and can do a bit of delegating! Luckily the planning can be really fun too. Set a bit of time aside to pull your favourite cookbooks off the shelves and have a nice browse through them to see what looks delicious. And no matter what type of food you’re craving, the internet always has tons of information and recipe variations. If there’s a favourite dish you haven’t had for a while because of recent changes to your diet or lifestyle, do a quick search to see if someone has posted a recipe that captures the flavours and textures you miss without using the ingredients you’re not eating right now. Chances are more than one person has! Or go ahead and tumble down that rabbit hole and learn in depth about where a particular spice originated and all different ways it’s used.

Even if you haven’t cooked regularly for a while (or ever!) it just takes a bit patience to get the feel for things so don’t be intimidated. One of the best ways to make the process go super smoothly is to get your kitchen stocked with some basics like good cooking oils and vinegars, shelf stable ingredients like lentils, grains, noodles, and a range of yummy spices and herbs that will make your creations taste amazing and allow you to get creative fine tuning your flavours!

We hope you have a really fun, tasty and overall great time in your kitchen as we head into cozy season. To get you started off, we have a whole collection of really simple, fresh, healthy recipes on our website that we’re sure you’ll love!
